This course is designed to familiarize students with the discipline of history and the craft of historical writing through a selection of influential and innovative texts and approaches. Students will engage critically with the readings and explore how different lenses such as gender, postcolonialism, and environment have changed how historians ask questions and the methods they use to answer them. The goal is for students to deepen their general knowledge of history as a discipline, to get an appreciation of the variety of approaches, and to identify texts and methodologies relevant to their own research.
