Image generators, chat bots, recommendation systems, object recognition software: digital technologies – and, more recently, artificial intelligence algorithms – are transforming our lives and ways of seeing the world. How can we grasp these often controversial technologies so as to avoid both naive utopianism and generalized skepticism?

The course unpacks preconceived ideas about digital technologies and analyzes their recent deployment. It aims to provide tools to help students better orient themselves in current debates related to artificial intelligence.

The course proposes a series of operative notions each of which helps to provide a detailed understanding of the various challenges raised by digital technologies and artificial intelligence. The course alternates between lecture sessions presenting theoretical notions and workshop sessions aimed at putting these notions into practice.
