Course description
Diplomatic and consular relations have always been the basis of stable relations between states. At the present stage of international relations, embassies and consulates continue to play an important role in ensuring friendly relations between states.
The course focuses on issues related to the establishment and operation of diplomatic missions and consular posts. Particular attention will be paid to diplomatic/consular privileges and immunities, which have a crucial role in the proper functioning of embassies and consulates. During the course, attention will be paid to the classification of privileges and immunities in accordance with the 1961 Vienna Convention and the 1963 Vienna Convention. Among other things, the peculiarities of border crossing by diplomatic representatives, the status of a diplomatic suitcase and the possibility of its disclosure, the release of a diplomatic agent from the jurisdiction of the host state in case of an offense will be considered. Emphasis will be placed on a comparative analysis of the scope and extent of the immunities and privileges of consular mission and consular officers towards diplomatic ones.
